tokyo -- this is old news at this point, but still news to me: legendary make up artist and creator of high-end cosmetics line, shu uemura is dead. uemura, who started out as the only male, japanese make up artist in 1950s hollywood, died of acute pneumonia on december 29th. he was 79 years old. he is acclaimed for his namesake cosmetics line, shu uemura, which incorporates fresh, organic materials. he also recently opened a deep-sea spa in his native japan. he is survived by his wife and son. sidenote: it looks like his family/p.r kept this purposely under wraps since press outlets are just starting to report this - a full week after his death. our condolences go out to his family.
