SNEAK PEEK: THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE

Marketing/P.R Guru, Fashion Addict and New York Socialisto, Geoffrey Patton got his hands on a preview issue of the September Issue, the film which documents the production of Vogue's legendary September 2007 issue.  The film debuts nationally on September 11th, but read below for Patton's advance review of what looks to be a documentary which is as informative as it is entertaining.

new york - I was blessed to have a dear friend (a major studio development director) send me an advance promo dvd of The Septmeber Issue. J'adore it!

After seeing Valentino: The Last Emporer, and as a compulsive Devil Wears Prada fan (must view once weekly, along w/ Auntie Mame), I had high expectations. All were met.

LOVE that all the women running the show at Vogue are really smart! Not one vapid creature in the lot. LOVE all the old photos of Anna and Grace as Vogue models of yesteryear. LOVE all the unmentioned details like assistant packing wardrobes in heels.

For the non fashion insider, I think they will see all the work and love that goes into each issue. Grace is the heroine in this film. And Anna comes across as a brilliant business woman. The film does a great job tying together how all of the fashion biz components (ads, shows, shoots, retailers, issues) interrelate.

NEEDED more Candy Pratt! I live fir her snarkiness! "September is the January of fashion". I mean, who doesn't remember her in Unzipped? "I like strong color. I'm not fond of plaid...like that!"

NEEDED a hot oil treatment and relaxer for Grace. Really, lets let the dry Sonia Rykiel hair go. Her house is fab! And I love that she's the only chica who can get away with flats in the office. Maybe for medical reasons....

NEEDED less ALT. Yes, thank you ALT for bringing color to Vogue. Literally, the only ethnic model in the issue that went to print, was in his column. But as Conde Nast fave, and maybe only, negro, he might as well be an Amos n Andy blackface skit in this film. Not just too much, he is for much here.

I will be watching on repeat this week to cath all the details I may have missed. Great soundtrack.

HOW ICONIC ARE THESE IMAGES FROM THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE PREMIER LAST NIGHT?

Last night, fashion icons came out - like groupies at an NFL draft party - to celebrate the New York City premier of the September issue.

new york -
we will discuss exactly why my invitation never arrived in my mailbox later - for now, let's focus on the positive. the positive here is mr. steve eichner and socialites for years. no wonder then that . of course, you don't know him. (truth be told, neither do i.) a quick google search (how did humans function before this) reveals him to be a well established photographer who has shot singers, actors, fashionistaswomen's wear daily hired him to shoot the festivities last night at the premier of the september issue. good move. looking at these photos - even on-line - is akin to scanning the pages of a lux coffee book. the star studded images, are visually lush and give us a clear view into what was clearly a legendary night amongst peers. eichner's talent is obvious in that every shot - be it diddy hobnobbing with zac posen, or reneezellwegger climbing the stares - tells a total story. kudos to him for a job well done, kudos to wwd.com for posting these pics, and kudos to me (while i'm handing them out) for being a good sport despite the lack of invitation to such a spectacular evening.

THE BEST MICHAEL JACKSON COVER - PERIOD!

GQ magazine places the King of Pop on the cover of it's September issue.

new york - okay, so maybe the tag line "when michael jackson was cool," definitely didn't help the case any. (but truth be told between dangling babies on the balcony and masking his entire face, michael didn't help his own case any either. let's just stand in the truth.) but i digress....a quick scan of this cover on the web reveals a laundry list of blogs from coverawards.com, to crunk and disorderly who strongly dislike the cover. some feel it's too late (after all, michael died weeks ago) while others feel it's a touch snarky (the cover line and tone of the article.) but we here at the blay report think this is the best cover - period. it catches michael at his height: looks, fame, style and goes on to share never before seen images with readers which highlight one of michael's most important contributions to pop culture: his style. i'm all for it. good job gq.

YOU SEEN IT FIRST: COLOR ME LINDA BY V MAG

Here is a quick taste of what will be in the V Mag issue #61 hitting news stands September 1st.

new york- kids, you remember linda evangelista don't you? back in the day, mamma was legend for changing her looks more times than naomi campbell changes her cellphone. she proves the point to perfection in an upcoming issue of v magazine. check out this sophia achval styled portfolio, shot by sebastian faena. good job all. the supermodel (alas, one who truly deserves that moniker) wears marc jacobs, y-3, chloe, gucci and more in the multi-page

A TOTALLY GRATUITOUS AMBER ROSE POST

Model? Groupie? Stripper? When it comes to Rose and The Blay Report, the only relevant title is: fashion icon. (Please don't roll your eyes).

new york - are you over me being into amber? i usually reserve such unbridled enthusiasm for my blayjavon team (you girls know who you are), 33 inch weaves and the roast chicken and yuca at tipico in washington heights, new york. but alas....amber rose gives all these elements a run for their money. the recently signed ford model was snapped by paps on the streets of new york yesterday. watch and enjoy as amber elevates a simple task: the fag (as in ciggarete) break, into a a photoshoot. i live and die and do it all over again.

NO ESTELLE, PLEASE TRY AGAIN!

The mega talented Brit singer, attempts to conquer music and fashion with these Womens Wear Daily photo shoot.

new york - oh blaynistas! blaynistas! blaynistas! you know being mean and critical and snarky is not my thing. but lawd-a-mercy! when the occasion calls for it, i must rise! that said...where do we start with miss estelle swaray? one one hand, kudos to her and her team for snagging a photo shoot plus feature in womens wear daily, the widely read industry rag. on the other hand: boo! neither the story or photoshoot clearly communicate the intended message: estelle is uniquely talented and uniquely stylish. instead, what i interpret from these pics and the feature is: estelle has a hit song 'american boy,' and no stylist. and yet.....as is revealed in the article, estelle puts a lot of thought into her look. (perhaps too much.)

she waxes on about how she'd crafted an "audrey-peppa" look for her upcoming album. as in a blend of "holly golightly" (audrey hepburn's character from breakfast at tiffany's) and hip hop artist, "peppa" ( from the group salt and pepp. but alas, she shares, by the time she was ready to debut, everyone was doing this look which she further describes as 'fifties' and 'corsets' etc.

okay.

now her new inspiration is, 'minnie tantrum.' and as this stylish character estelle plans to wear harem pants, sharply tailored jackets and slinky dresses. in other words, the stuff h&m has been selling for seasons; alexander wang has been designing for ages; and intermix had on sale last week.

i don't mean to be gratuitously harsh. but if you are going to wax poetic about your style philosophy and unique look, please make sure that you actually have one. but alas...i digress....here are the images from the shoot. what say you?

WE LUST THIS: CHRIS SUAVE T-SHIRTS

Graphic tees are relevant again with these chic, snarky, pop versions which pay homage to current events -and characters - in fashion.

new york - who is chris suave? google him baby. the art director has lent his services to many a fab company from the new york times to alexander wang. how graphic tees fit in there, i have no idea. but he is slowly being known and loved and adored for them. i spotted his 'god don't like ugly' tee on new york magazine online and then logged on to his website where i saw a ton of equally ch-ironic ones (yep. that's chic + ironic). they are all avail for about $35 a piece.

DAKOTA FANNING FEATURED IN NEW YORK TIMES T STYLE MAGAZINE

The teen star, who always seems mature beyond her years , plays 'dress up' in this somber shoot.

new york - photographer mark segal captures dakota fanning in this spread titled '15 going on 30.' i am not particularly moved by the subject. what say you?
