worldwide - i mean duh! when you make reckless comments like (and i paraphrase) " the earthquake in china was karma." this is what happens. sharon stone - and all celebs out there - you are hot and worth your signing fee, but not hot enough to be a liability. but i am digressing....the news is: sharon stone has been dropped by christian dior as a spokeswoman for the brand. initially, they were only going to cancel the ads running in china, but after a week of heat from chinese media (and no doubt customers) they had to pull the plug entirely.

the quote that sparked the controversy was this: “I’m not happy about the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans because I don’t think anyone should be unkind to anyone else. And then the earthquake and all this stuff happened, and then I thought, is that karma? When you’re not nice that the bad things happen to you?” stone recently backpedaled in a statement she gave to press via dior. either way, too little too late. that chri$tian dior contract is gone. check out her statement: “Due to my inappropriate words and acts during the interview, I feel deeply sorry and sad about hurting Chinese people. I am willing to take part in the relief work of China’s earthquake, and wholly devote myself to helping affected Chinese people.”

VUITTON LOVES HONG KONG

hong kong - louis vuitton has been doing extremely well, thanks in large part to customers from the asia-pacific. that's probably why vuitton has decided to launch it's largest flagship store (outside of paris) in hong kong. the store will be located on canton road near the recently expanded victoria harbor. we are only six days away from the march 16th debut. stay tuned for photos and details as they develop.

YAMAMOTO'S TO DEBUT A ONE-OFF CHINESE COLLECTION

beijing - yohji yamamoto, a japanese designer, seems dead set on promoting chinese fashion and i am loving his strategy. the designer will debut a special autumn/winter collection which will debut in beijing in april of this year. the pieces will be auctioned off at the beijing hotel to raise money for the "yohji yamamoto fund for peace." the event is part of a larger annual scheme by yamamoto, which will see his charity organization sponsoring a chinese designer and chinese model each year. the designer will take part in a two year fashion education program, while the model will debut on the yamamoto runway during paris fashion week. this ties in nicely with yamamoto's upcoming expansion in china, where a total of twelve stores are planned to open by 2010.

by the way, yamamoto actually just showed in paris and his collection is simply amazing. it is a result of a collaboration with hermes (what a brilliant move on both parts) and in my opinion, it is quiet successful. the wide skirts, and tailored jackets create a refreshing silhouette which manages to reference the curves of a woman, but is no slave to it. even if the collection does look a bit fanciful at first glance, it doesn't take much convincing to see that some of these jackets would make an excellent staple in any wardrobe.
