WHOSE RECESSION IS IT ANYWAY? LUXURY COMPANIES POST INCREASED EARNINGS

usa - okay maybe luxury companies is over reaching. i am really talking specifically about one luxury company: hermes. the uber-luxury brand, which has some of the highest price points in the category (think upwards of $20,000 USD for a custom birkin bag, their staple product and a favorite of victoria beckham.) has announced that profits have grown over 12% in the second quarter, with primary profits being gained in america and asia. it just goes to show, as i mentioned in a previous huffington post column, that the reality of an economic recession is truly relative. just my two cents...

THERE'S A NEW KID IN TOWN AT ZAC POSEN....

new york - i gotta tell you, i really don't blog much about this company, but i totally love them. zac posen, the label of choice for young socialites in new york city, is going through changes. luckily it's not the firing and rehiring of designers (which seems to be par for the course these days in fashion.) instead it's the hiring of a new c.e.o of the company. her name is laura o'connor and she will actually be pulling double duty as both c.e.o of the company and president. she starts on august 4th, replacing both susan posen current c.e.o of the company and barry miguel, former president. good luck laura! p.s. please get into the zac posen doll on the left. it is part of a $300 barbie and ken doll set that debuted two years ago. wow. and yes - the ken doll was meant to look like zac. it this hot or not?

new york - dear blaynista! tell me i am NOT the only one obsessed with david yurman jewelry! although i have yet to own anything from his collection, i have always admired the pieces from afar. now yurman is lending his trademark aesthetic to the eyewear category with his new venture: david yurman glasses. to celebrate this new range, yurman personally hosted an event for fashion editors last week on the rooftop of his new york city office. (i am sure my invite slipped through the mail...) this is an interesting expansion project. personally, i would have assumed that a fragrance would have come before an eyewear range. but what do i know...?

usa - don't you love my risque questions? but i digress.....so i guess it was inevitable. juicy couture is expanding yet again, and this time it's with intimate apparel. their new label, choose sleep by juicy couture has officially debuted at "better department stores" across the country. the label features a range of sleepwear and loungewear and prices start at $14 for undies going up to about $125 for robes.

paris ohmygah! am i a peasant!? i had no idea that playboy came in international editions!? let alone a french one! i am gagging. so any way, british model lily cole is rumoured to be on the november cover of the french edition of playboy magazine. according to fashionista.com (which posted these pics on their site) she will be posing totally nude, as fellow models lou dillion and lydia hearst did for a previous issue of the magazine. wowza.

miami - blaynista's, please behold reality t.v. star, singer, "model", designer deelishis aka london charles. at a bowling event this past weekend she chose to wear this weather appropriate - yet hardly appropriate - bikini top and skirt ensemble. now personally, i think she's a very pretty girl and she has the figure to carry the look off. but does she have the skin? if you look carefully at the pic you will witness a multitude of stretch mark lines rising from her tummy. stretch marks are normal and many women have them. but is it tacky, bold, or just plain silly to make them so visible? i'd love to know your thoughts.

Berlin- Your fav Sex and the City girl Kim Cattrall and Mercedes-Benz brand model Eva Padberg jumped in a Mercedes-Benz of course to attend festivities for Berlin's Spring/Summer 2009 Fashion Week that officially kicked off yesterday.

The celeb fashionistas made it to their destination Behala Halle to attend the HUGO fashion show of Hugo Boss. HUGO’s 2009 spring/summer fashion show in Westhafen was the opening event of the week, however the week’s main location will be Berlin’s historic Bebelplatz (the birthplace of German's 20th Century haute couture).

Basso & Brooke, Eastpak and Scherer González are three out of the 26 domestic and international designers that are set to hit the runways on Berlin catwalks for the first time.
