PRE-FALL GLAMOUR AT RACHEL ROY

usa - today is the day i fully realized that rachel roy is the shizz. seriously. take a good look at the silhouettes she produces season in and season out, examine (if you can via a computer monitor) the lux fabrics she incorporates, take in the total vision and you'll understand: this is a label designed by a woman for a woman. i'm finally beginning to understand and appreciate the easy glamour which she promotes in her sophisticated, mix and match pieces. rachel roy really is the wardrobe for a busy, city sophisticate - no wonder each item i saw reminded me of rachel herself. apparently, this is no coincidence. in it's review of the collection, style.com noted that roy herself has been seen in these prefall pieces before they debuted. okay, so it's clear i am in love. what are your thoughts?
PRE FALL ELEGANCE AT CALVIN KLEIN

usa - herewith are my favorite looks from the 25 piece calvin klein pre-fall collection. it feels sort of odd to praise these pieces for being chic, simple and elegant because at the end of the day, that's what most calvin klein collections are and have always been. yet, these are the key adjectives that apply to this pre-fall line up and precisely what excites me about them. kudos to ck creative director, fransisco costa for maintaining and even exceeding the vision of this label.
ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER STORE CLOSING...SAKS FIFTH AVENUE BRIDAL STORE EDITION

usa - this time the loser is....saks fifth avenue's bridal salons nationwide. saks incorporated announced that 16 out of 18 of its bridal salons nationwide will be closed. the only two which will remain open are those in manhattan and beverly hills. according to analysts the news won't get better with time. one in ten u.s retailers are projected to shut down completely in coming years, says, shawn kravetz, president of esplanade capital. he gave this funny (but sad) quote at the reuters investment summit in new york, shopping malls " are going to look like a nine-year-old who's losing a few of his or her teeth." wow.
KOHL'S TO SELL AND DESIGN MUDD CLOTHING

usa - okay, are you thinking what i'm thinking? a) mudd clothing still exists and b) why would kohl's want to design or sell it. in these tough economic times, the answer can't possibly be a profit. but apparently, there's a market for mudd clothing - and if you are a member of that market please do excuse me. but i digress...the news is: starting in july of next year kohl's corporation will become the exclusive u.s retailer of mudd apparel, jewelry and accessories. senior executive at kohl's , don brennan, had this to say about the deal: " we're pleased the agreement with iconix (owners of mudd)...., will enhance the mudd brand's presence in stores and grow our portfolio of exclusive offerings." i think this is a really good look for mudd, but i'm not sure if the same goes for kohl's. thoughts? and p.s the big old photo of ashanti? thats from mudd's recent campaign for its delicious curves line. they decided to go with ashanti as their spokes model. again.....i know what you are thinking....
THE BLAY REPORT IS SWEET ON HONEYSHED
online - just when you think there's nothing more to improve about online shopping, along comes honeyshed. it's a new shopping site that claims to be "reinventing shopping for the digital generation." they aren't lying. the website is super user friendly and is very heavy on using pictures - instead of words - to guide you to the products you love. they sell everything from nars cosmetics to olympus cameras and they categorize all their products under the most hilarious labels (i.e. "your shit" "kicks to lids" "fun shit"). the site has daily promotions that offer you deep discounts on the products you love. right now, they are running a promotion where you can "stash" the stuff you would love to buy from the site each day. a lucky winner will get their entire wish list for for free. the gagger about the site though is that instead of the typical product shot and thirty word descriptive caption, honeyshed uses video skits to show off the merchandise. whether it's an italian leather wallet, a pair of pumas, or a vintage hoodie, you will be treated to a two-minute skit celebrating the product. it literally feels like watching qvc for the 21-and-under generation, but i love it. check out stills from some of my favorite videos on the left, and go here to experience honeyshed for yourself. let us know if you love it or hate it!
KATIE GRAND & CO HAVE THAT LOVE-ING FEELING

london - so i'm guessing my editorial savvy blaynista's know all about love, the new magazine launched by london's super star editrix, katie grand. grand, who also studied at central saint martins, has a legendary track record in publishing. while a student at csm, she launched dazed and confused magazine. after graduating, she moved on to face magazine, and later launched pop magazine. so it's only right that conde nast tapped her to launch, love, a new fashion mag which i imagine will follow the same luxe/edgy/artsy formula which has been consistent in grand's career. the lucky londoner's who will serve as the first editorial staff of love have been announced and they are as follows: (p.s as i read the masthead, all i kept thinking was? where are all the junior/assistant editors? almost everyone is a senior editor)
