NIKE GOES POP: WARHOL STYLE
The footwear company shows off the new Nike Air Max 90s kicks that feature the many faces of Marilyn Monroe, courtesy of Andy Warhol's famous artwork.
World Wide Web - In the 1960s, Pop Art artist Andy Warhol created "mass-produced" images from the photographs of celebrities. His take on a Marilyn Monroe publicity shot by Gene Korman for the 1953 film Niagara became one of his famous work. He cropped the photograph to fit the size of his canvas and silkscreened it to several paintings. The Marilyn canvases were the result of Warhol experimenting with a new art method and he recalled the experience: "In August 62 I started doing silkscreens. I wanted something stronger that gave more of an assembly line effect. With silkscreening you pick a photograph, blow it up, transfer it in glue onto silk, and then roll ink across it so the ink goes through the silk but not through the glue. That way you get the same image, slightly different each time. It was all so simple quick and chancy. I was thrilled with it. When Marilyn Monroe happened to die that month, I got the idea to make screens of her beautiful face the first Marilyns." The Marilyn canvases have been used many times in the fashion industry like designers putting the images on accessories or tees, but I don't think we have seen Warhol's famous work on shoes yet, right? If we haven't check out these new Nike Air Max 90s sneakers that feature the many colorful images of the iconic sex symbol. It is the company's take on Warhol's famous prints, and I'm sure it will have many sneaker collectors drooling over these kicks. Here are two more images to tempt you:
