new york - there is no shock at all in the news that andre benjamin (aka andre 3000) of the music group outkast, is launching a clothing line. instead, the shock is that it took so long. in a sea of actors, singers and athletes who have launched clothing line's recently, benjamin is one of the few who are actually qualified for such an undertaking. over the past decade he's proven to be a consistent and successful risk taker in fashion - wearing everything from purple wigs to three-piece suits. no matter what the get up, there's always the feeling that this is less about shock dressing and more about self expression. that's why i am so thrilled to hear about his new label.
the line is called benjamin bixby and in an interview with new york magazine he described it saying, "Benjamin Bixby...is a character who’s kind of like your uncle, or your granddad, and he has a closet full of experiences and clothes, and he’s been around the world.” he also cites beau brummell and the duke of windsor as inspirations, saying "those guys killed it." i am excited, and can't wait to see his line when it debuts. i can guess that fashion loving dudes in my life like omar ibn abdullah, kareem anglin of msr, (www.malestylereview.blogspot.com) and keyshawn of yuhdigg (wwww.yuhdigg.blogspot.com) would love this as well.
