STUART WEITZMAN TO DO HANDBAGS

The shoe designer adds contemporary handbag line to his brand.

World Wide Web - The high-end shoe company Stuart Weitzman signed a deal with Mosaicon SpA to design, produce and distribute a handbag collection starting this summer. The line will "reflect the brand's contemporary yet classic style." The 30-year shoe veteran Weitzman told Women’s Wear Daily: "Recessions have always opened up opportunities for people who like to be a little aggressive in their business. When everything is fantastic, it's hard to find a new opening. People are doing well with all they've got. When things changed last year, opportunities arose and we began to see a real demand for a price-value relationship." Prices for the bags range from $395 to $595. [Story/Image: Racked.com]

H&M THROWS A FASHION PARADE

The retailer launches the Sonia Rykiel lingerie collection with a fashion show parade in Paris.

Paris - Last night the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show aired on CBS but not without competition. Shortly before VS fashion show aired H&M had its own live fashion show parade in Paris for the lingerie portion of the Sonia Rykiel collection. 2,000 guests, including Kate Bosworth, Lily Cole, Ellen von Unwerth, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Eva Herzigova, attended H&M’s extravagant launch party held at the Grand Palais. The show featured an eleven-story high Eiffel Tower replica and fireworks were set off inside. Models also danced and biked on the parade floats that went down the runway. The lingerie pieces will be in stores this Saturday, Dec. 5 but the knitwear portion of the Sonia Rykiel for H&M line will be out next year on Feb. 20. [Story/Image: Fashionologie/FWD]

MANGO AND JCPENNY TEAM UP

Italian based fashion line, Mango, inks deal with JC Penny to release affordable line MNG.

USA - After releasing the Olsen twins Olsenboye line, JCPenny strikes another deal with Mango, the Barcelona based fashion line, to release affordable but chic line, MNG. Mango which has more than 1300 stores globally but will debut MNG in 600 JC Penny store locations in fall of 2011. With the lure of the Olsen twins earlier, this definitely can shape JC Penny’s “Middle America” appeal to the masses. PHARRELL WILLIAMS TEAMS UP WITH MONCLER

Grammy award-winning producer Pharrell Williams collaborates with European brand Moncler to create special edition "bulletproof" jackets.


World Wide Web - Music producer Pharrell Williams continues to show his interest in design. In the past he co-founded two clothing brands (Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream Footwear), co-designed a collection of jewelry and glasses for Louis Vuitton, and worked on furniture with French manufacturer, Domeau & Pérès. Now Williams is collaborating with European brand Moncler to design "bulletproof" jackets with the use of his own company, Bionic Yarn, which sources its material from recycled plastic bottles. The collection will consist of "an all-black selection that will include extended length, 'bulletproof' puffer jackets." Williams said in a release, "To me, Moncler has always been the premier luxury outerwear brand. Their clothes are the chicest and blend classic outerwear with high-end fabrics." The celeb fashionistas made it to their destination Behala Halle to attend the HUGO fashion show of Hugo Boss. HUGO’s 2009 spring/summer fashion show in Westhafen was the opening event of the week, however the week’s main location will be Berlin’s historic Bebelplatz (the birthplace of German's 20th Century haute couture).

Basso & Brooke, Eastpak and Scherer González are three out of the 26 domestic and international designers that are set to hit the runways on Berlin catwalks for the first time.
