GIANT MAGAZINE FOLDS

Giant magazine ends print edition but moves content online.

USA - Radio One officially announced yesterday (Nov. 20) it will suspend the print edition of Giant magazine after the upcoming issue hits the newsstands. The bi-monthly publication of urban music and pop culture will be publish online only at GiantLife.com under Radio One’s 'Interactive One' subsidiary. The broadcast company bought the magazine in 2007 for $270,000, publishing a total of 33 issues. Tom Newman, president of Interactive One, said in a statement, "The economic downturn has had a tremendous impact on print media and we had to make the decision to suspend printing the publication. Additionally we recognize the increase in demand for real time information and see this as an opportunity to leverage our existing robust online platform to better serve Giant consumers and advertisers through our interactive medium." Beyonce, Prince, Maxwell, Janet Jackson, T.I. and Naomi Campbell have been featured on the cover of the magazine, but it is Alicia Keys who lands the final print cover available on the newsstands on December 15. Cue Queen's "Another one bites the dust" song, please. [Story: HipHopWired/Washington Business Journal]
