when's the last time you went to kohl's, nordstrom or jcpenney? if you are like me- that had to be in eigth grade. but the rest of the country apparently knows something we don't:department stores are dope! that's why, according to wwd, companies like jc penney and kohl's had a very good year in the profit department. the reason? strong, fresh ideas that are reeling customers in like exclusive clothing lines (think jc penney's liz claiborne), aggressive advertising (think of those snazzy kohl's ads), and bold realestate moves (penney's and nordstrom's both want to break into nyc realestate.) all this has culminated in double digit gains for all three companies. nice!
