PETER SOM BLOOMS ON HIS OWN

 

The designer's joyful new direction shows in his Spring 2010 collection.

 

 

New York - If you haven't seen any shows that didn't have any pieces you would personally want to wear when the month of May rolls in, I give you Peter Som's Spring 2010 collection to have you looking forward to next year. Oh, where do I even begin. In 2008 Som had a turbulent time as the creative director for the company Bill Blass and eventually resigned. His Fall collection had only 16 looks due to the company's financial issues. This season, however, is his rebirth, expressing "extreme happiness" for his new collection. Looking at all his pieces it showed that Som understood what spring is all about: fun, vibrancy, color, fresh and youth. The main focus was on separates, putting together coats, loose blouses, dresses, and skirts in shades of yellow, ivory, peach, blue, orange, grey and metallic and in prints of floral, leopard, polka dots, and stripes. He showcased his creativity with beautifully mixing different colors and prints together, while showing his eye for little details too, such as an orange tulle around the waist, two-toned belts across dresses and orange lining on a grey brocade ensemble. "I wanted all the clothes to sparkle," Som said. "Every fabric has a little shine." And shine and sparkle he did because this is simply the "Spring" collection of Fashion Week.
